Valdez

Valdez signed a minor league pact with the Rockies last December and never wound up appearing in a game for Colorado. The 31-year-old righty has made 76 relief appearances in the big leagues dating back to 2019.

Valdez held his own over 13 appearances with the Red Sox during the 2022 season, compiling a 4.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 13/7 K/BB ratio over 16 1/3 innings. He’s a nice risk-free addition for the Rockies and should be able to compete for a spot in their Opening Day bullpen.

Valdez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and will remain in the organization.

The M’s needed to free up a move on the 40-man roster for Brian O’Keefe to join the big league club on Friday and it looks like Valdez was the odd-man out. The 30-year-old hurler posted a 4.22 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 16/9 K/BB ratio over 21 1/3 innings at Triple-A Tacoma.

Valdez was designated for assignment by Boston on Tuesday. The 30-year-old right-hander holds a career 4.56 ERA and 96/51 K/BB ratio in 102 2/3 total innings -- all in relief -- at the major league level.

Valdéz has been jettisoned from the Red Sox’ 40-man roster to make room for righty Josh Winckowski to be activated from the COVID-19 injured list. The 30-year-old righty has shuttled back and forth between Boston’s bullpen and Triple-A Worcester this season, compiling a serviceable 4.41 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 13/7 K/BB ratio across 16 1/3 innings (13 appearances).

Valdez has a 4.41 ERA across 13 relief appearances for the Red Sox this season. He should get another chance sometime after the All-Star break.

With Connor Seabold hitting the injured list, the Red Sox call on Valdez to help an injury-riddled pitching staff. The 30-year-old has a 5.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts across 13 1/3 innings for the Red Sox this season. He shouldn’t be a factor for saves with Tanner Houck pitching well in the ninth inning.

Valdez was optioned to make space on the active roster for Connor Seabold. The 30-year-old right-hander has posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 13 strikeouts across 13 1/3 innings for the Red Sox this season.

Valdez is on the bus between Worcester and Boston and will head back to the big league club as Rich Hill lands on the injured list. The 30-year-old will fill in during the middle innings and hopes to help the struggling Red Sox pen.
