Cubs RHP prospect Preston Morrison spun seven shutout frames Wednesday in a win for Low-A South Bend.

He matched a season-high with nine strikeouts while throwing 57 of his 85 pitches for strikes. Morrison has now gone 28 1/3 innings without allowing a run and has won each of his last five starts. The 22-year-old leads the Midwest League with nine wins and is also seventh in ERA (2.44). The TCU alum was an eighth-round pick in 2015.

Cubs pitching prospect Preston Morrison pitched six shutout innings on Thursday for Double-A Tennessee.

He allowed just two hits on the afternoon, walking none and striking out three. Morrison had struggled in his previous outings this year, so this was a nice bounce back for the former TCU ace. He has four average pitches in his arsenal and throws them all for strikes, so while there isn’t much upside here, there is a chance he ends up a backend starter if he realizes his potential.
