Phillies signed OF Ryan McKenna to a minor league contract.
McKenna, 27, is a .221/.298/.328 hitter in 523 career plate appearances, all but six of which came with the Orioles. He’ll be a candidate for a callup if a Phillies outfielder gets hurt.
  • FA Center Fielder #34
    Giants released OF Ryan McKenna.
The Giants claimed McKenna on waivers earlier this season. He was booted from the 40-man roster in May and sent outright to the minors. A former fourth round pick of the Orioles in 2015, he’s now free to sign with any team.
  • SF Center Fielder #34
Giants sent OF Ryan McKenna outright to Triple-A Sacramento.
The 27-year-old outfielder passed through waivers unclaimed and accepted his outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento. He’ll continue to function as excess outfield depth for the Giants until he’s called upon once more.
  • SF Center Fielder #34
Giants designated OF Ryan McKenna for assignment.
Mckenna was claimed off waivers earlier this month from the Orioles and winds up getting jettisoned from San Francisco’s 40-man roster after going hitless in six at-bats over four contests.
  • SF Left Fielder #13
Austin Slater (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.
Slater was injured on May 10th and has been on the concussion-IL since then. He will likely need a few games at Triple-A before potentially returning to his role as a bench outfielder who starts regularly against left-handed pitching. That could mean the end of Ryan McKenna’s role as the backup outfielder in San Francisco.
  • SF Left Fielder #31
LaMonte Wade Jr. (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Mets.
Wade Jr. will miss Sunday’s game after leaving Wednesday’s contest with a hamstring issue. The Giants will start Ryan McKenna in right field while Wade Jr. is out. He should be considered day-to-day.
  • SF Center Fielder #26
Giants claimed OF Ryan McKenna from the Orioles.
McKenna bolsters San Francisco’s outfield depth, which has been depleted in recent weeks due to injury, which includes losing center fielder Jung Hoo Lee for the rest of the season to shoulder surgery. The 27-year-old was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Orioles after getting into just nine games this season in the big leagues.
  • BAL Center Fielder #26
Orioles designated OF Ryan McKenna for assignment
With Austin Hays coming off the IL, the Orioles will move on from the 27-year-old McKenna. He’s a career .224 hitter in 517 MLB plate appearances, but he was performing in his chances this year, going 3-for-8 with two home runs, one walk, and one strikeout. He’ll likely get a chance with another team.
  • BAL Center Fielder #21
Orioles activated OF Austin Hays (calf) from the 10-day IL.
Hays was put on the IL on April 22nd and made his way back in less than a month. The 28-year-old is hitting just .111/.200/.111 in 19 games with 11 strikeouts and four walks. While he is no longer a starter, he could see regular playing time against left-handed pitching with Colton Cowser slowing down in recent weeks. Ryan McKenna was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.
  • BAL Center Fielder #26
Orioles selected the contract of OF Ryan McKenna from Triple-A Norfolk.
McKenna will join the active roster after the team optioned top prospect Jackson Holliday. The 27-year-old cleared waivers after he was designated for assignment at the beginning of the regular season and comes to Baltimore with experience at the major league level where he slashed .254/.316/.677 with two homers and 18 RBI in his 139 plate appearances last season.
