Benschoter

Benschoter has been removed from Cincinnati’s 40-man roster heading into the offseason after registering a serviceable 4.12 ERA across 78 2/3 innings over 38 appearances (five starts) for Triple-A Louisville this past season.

Benschoter is removed from the active roster to make room for Hunter Greene after Greene came off the injured list with a groin strain. Benschoter is nothing more than an up-and-down arm at this stage of his career. There are worse things in life, of course, but there’s no fantasy upside in that.

Benschoter will add some middle-inning help for the bullpen, and have a chance to make his MLB debut if/when he enters a game.

Benschoter didn’t get to make his major league debut during his three days with the Reds, but at least he’s on the 40-man roster now. He had his contract selected Tuesday to serve as an option in middle relief.

Benschoter, a Michigan State product, is in the majors for the first time after toiling away for five years in the Reds system. Mostly a starter in his career, he’s made 17 of his 21 appearances this year in relief and posted a 4.06 ERA and a 44/13 K/BB in 51 innings for Louisville.
