Mariners signed INF Sam Travis to a minor league contract.
Travis is a former second-round pick by the Red Sox who was acquired by the Rangers in January in a deal for Jeffrey Springs. The 27-year-old has struggled in the majors with a career .230/.288/.371 line in 278 plate appearances, and he isn’t likely to compete for time in Seattle’s lineup this spring.

Sam Travis walloped a two-run homer on Wednesday as the Rangers’ fell to the Giants in Cactus League action.
Travis belted a two-run shot to left field -- his first round-tripper of the spring -- off Giants righty Kevin Gausman in the second inning. It was his lone hit over two at-bats in the rain-shortened affair. Given the persistent struggles of Ronald Guzman (7-for-33) and Greg Bird (3-for-29) this spring, there’s a real chance that Travis, who is hitting an absurd .467 (7-for-15) over eight Cactus League contests, cracks the Rangers’ Opening Day roster. The 26-year-old first baseman would make plenty of sense as a natural lefty-mashing platoon partner for Guzman at the cold corner. Keep him on your fantasy radar in AL-only formats.

Red Sox sent 1B/OF Sam Travis outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Travis was designated for assignment last week to open up a roster spot for catcher Kevin Plawecki, but he cleared waivers and will remain with the Red Sox organization for now. Travis, 26, is a career .230/.288/.371 hitter at the major league level.

Red Sox designated 1B/OF Sam Travis for assignment.
This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for catcher Kevin Plawecki, who signed a one-year, $900,000 contract with the Red Sox on Thursday. Travis, 26, hit just .215/.274/.382 over 59 games with Boston in 2019.

Sam Travis (head) went 1-for-5 with two strikeouts in his return to action Sunday versus the Rays.
Travis was entered into concussion protocol last week after getting hit in the head by a relay throw, but he apparently passed all the necessary tests. The 26-year-old is slashing .224/.276/.403 in 54 games this season.

Sam Travis has entered the concussion protocol after his head injury against the Giants on Tuesday.
Travis was hit in the head with a relay throw on Tuesday, and he unfortunately was sans helmet. Red Sox manager Alex Cora believes that Travis could be cleared to play over the weekend against the Rays, but Boston won’t -- and shouldn’t -- rush him back to the field until he’s 100 percent.

Sam Travis was removed from Tuesday night’s game against the Giants due to a head injury.
Travis got beaned by a relay throw, with his helmet off. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he is “OK” but will be run through concussion protocol. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Sam Travis belted a solo home run Saturday in the Red Sox’ loss to the Angels.
Travis had some issues in left field defensively in the top of the seventh inning but tried to make up for it in the bottom of the frame with a long blast over the center field wall. He also plated a run earlier in the game with a sacrifice fly. Travis has been getting regular starts against lefties lately and has homered in two of his last three games.

Sam Travis crunched a two-run dinger during Thursday’s win over the Angels.
His shot off Dillon Peters was the key blow of the ballgame. The Angels were shut out by Chris Sale and Brandon Workman. Travis has handled the bat fairly well in part-time duty for the Red Sox this year, slashing .253/.287/.434 with four home runs and 11 RBI in 87 plate appearances.
