Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Pirates are trading Ke’Bryan Hayes to the Reds.
In return for Hayes, the Reds will send the Pirates shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura along with left-hander Taylor Rogers. Hayes has not done much with the bat after his impressive showing in the 2020 season, and is slashing just .236/.279/.290 for the 2025 season. What he can do is play third base as well as anyone in the sport, so it’s a big upgrade for the Reds’ infield defense. It’s hard to imagine Hayes is going to ever live up to offensive expectations, but it’s worth noting that he gets an upgrade in home ballparks.

Reds selected Panas HS (Cortlandt Manor, NY) SS Sammy Stafura with the 42nd pick of the 2023 MLB Draft.
An elite speedster with an improving bat, Stafura represents an interesting lottery ticket for Reds in the early stages of the second round. The 18-year-old middle infielder is a long way off from the majors, but there’s plenty to work with here from a tools perspective and he could make a major impact for Reds down the road.
