Samuel Basallo (wrist) came off the bench as a pinch-hitter during Monday’s loss to the Mariners.
Basallo wound up being involved in a bizarre play where he flew out to deep center field with runners at the corners in the eighth inning and Blaze Alexander was tagged out at second base for an inning-ending double play before a run crossed the plate. Orioles manager Craig Albernaz told reporters earlier on Monday that Basallo has been playing through a lingering wrist issue that they’re optimistic won’t require surgery. He’s day-to-day moving forward.

Samuel Basallo is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Mariners with a left wrist injury.
Orioles manager Craig Albernaz told reporters Basallo is dealing with a left wrist issue that he’s been playing through for some time. He added that he doesn’t believe it will require surgery. There’s no indication he’ll require a trip to the injured list at this time. Basallo will receive some extra time off following his involvement in a home-plate collision during Sunday’s series finale against the Blue Jays that led to his early exit from the contest. The 21-year-old former top prospect also missed time earlier in the series with an abdominal issue. There’s a lot to unpack here. It’ll be Sam Huff handling the catching duties with Adley Rutschman also receiving a day off.

Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said Samuel Basallo was removed for a pinch-hitter Sunday because he was shaken up earlier on a collision at the plate.
Basallo was already dealing with abdominal discomfort coming into the game. Consider him questionable for Monday’s game against the Mariners.

Samuel Basallo (abdomen) returned to the Orioles’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s tilt against the Blue Jays.
Basallo was pulled from Friday’s game due to right abdominal discomfort, but he appeared as a pinch hitter on Saturday and now finds himself back behind the dish for Sunday’s series finale. The 21-year-old backstop has hit a solid .272/.337/.491 with nine homers and 26 RBI through his first 193 plate appearances with the O’s this season.

Samuel Basallo grounded out as a pinch-hitter Saturday against the Blue Jays.
Basallo’s availability was in question because of abdominal discomfort, but the Orioles sent him in to face Louis Varland and got a weak grounder from him. There was no word after the game on whether he might rejoin the starting lineup on Sunday.

Samuel Basallo (abdomen) is out of the lineup for Saturday’s showdown against the Blue Jays.
Basallo underwent an MRI on Saturday that came back clean, which is an encouraging development. In the meantime, the Orioles brought up Sam Huff as emergency catching depth behind Adley Rutschman. The 21-year-old prodigy made a precautionary exit from Friday’s series opener at the Rogers Centre with right abdominal discomfort. There should be a clearer idea of his status before the weekend concludes. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as it unfolds.

Orioles selected the contract of C Sam Huff from Triple-A Norfolk.
Huff receives the call to join Baltimore’s catching mix as emergency depth behind starter Adley Rutschman while Samuel Basallo deals with an abdominal issue. The 28-year-old offers some over-the-fence pop but little else at this stage of his career. He got into three games for the Orioles earlier this month.

Samuel Basallo was removed from Friday night’s game against the Blue Jays due to right abdominal discomfort.
It’s unclear when or where Basallo sustained the injury, but he was lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning, indicating that something was up. While it doesn’t sound like anything serious, his availability for the remainder of the weekend will likely depend on how he’s feeling when he gets up on Saturday.

Samuel Basallo had an RBI double, a walk and two runs scored Thursday against the Red Sox.
It could have been a really good day for Basallo with some luck, as he had a pair of 107-mph lineouts to go along with his 112-mph double to right. Basallo’s tough first three weeks are still taking a toll on his overall numbers this year, but he’s hit an outstanding .345/.397/.602 in 35 games since Apr. 20.

Samuel Basallo (shoulder) will start behind the plate and bat fifth for the Orioles on Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jays.
Basallo gave a bit of an injury scare on Saturday as he walked off the field clutching his shoulder after a swing in the ninth inning, but it appears to have been just a minor issue. The 21-year-old slugger has done a nice job at the plate this season, slashing .276/.335/.506 with nine homers and 24 RBI in 173 plate appearances.
