Mariners RHP prospect Taylor Dollard struck out six over four innings of one-run baseball Wednesday for Double-A Arkansas.
The 23-year-old did allow six hits, but he was able to hold the San Antonio lineup to just the one run, thanks in large part to those aforementioned strikeouts. It’s been an outstanding first six outings for Dollard, as the former fifth-round pick has a miniscule 0.82 ERA with a 23/5 K/BB ratio and .198 average allowed in 22 innings. The 6-foot-3 right-hander doesn’t have an elite pitch, but he has four solid offerings that he pounds the strike zone with, and the command isn’t far behind the control. He’s likely just a backend option, but if any of those pitches do flash plus -- certainly not unheard of for someone of his age and experience -- has a chance to be a mid-rotation option or better.
