Marlins LHP prospect Thomas White (oblique) is being promoted back to Triple-A Jacksonville.
White had a Grade 1 oblique strain at the beginning of March and was moved to Minor League Camp. He then started the season with Low-A Jupiter, throwing six innings across two starts while striking out 10 and walking six. He remains one of the better starting pitching prospects in baseball and could be up with the Marlins over the summer.

Marlins reassigned LHP Thomas White to minor league camp.
White was recently diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain, but he wasn’t likely to make the club anyway. The left-hander does stand a good chance of joining the Marlins at some point in 2026, and his ability to miss bats makes him worth roster consideration whenever that takes place.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher
Marlins’ pitching prospect Thomas White was diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain.
The highly touted 21-year-old southpaw suffered the injury during his Grapefruit League debut. He’s expected to be shelved for the next 3-4 weeks which will end his time in big league camp with the Marlins. White is expected to open the 2026 season at Triple-A Jacksonville, and it wouldn’t be shocking in the slightest to see him make his big league debut at some point during the season.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #35
Yankees acquired LHP Ryan Weathers from the Marlins for OF Dillon Lewis, OF Brendan Jones, 1B Dylan Jasso and SS Juan Matheus.
The trade is now official. Weathers has shown flashes of big-time potential, recording a strong 3.74 ERA — 4.26 FIP — 1.21 WHIP and 117/36 K/BB ratio across 125 innings for the Marlins over the last two seasons. The 26-year-old southpaw has been limited to just 24 starts during that span due to injuries, including forearm and lat issues that cost him nearly five months this past season. He’s an interesting gamble for the Yankees — and a speculative late-round dice roll in fantasy leagues — as a high-upside rotation arm with Gerrit Cole coming off Tommy John surgery and Carlos Rodón working his way back from an offseason elbow procedure. He projects as a high-velocity impact reliever if they decide to move him to the bullpen at some point in the future. Meanwhile, his departure from Miami removes another obstacle from the path of top pitching prospects Thomas White and Robby Snelling.

YES Network’s Jack Curry reports the Yankees are acquiring starter Ryan Weathers from the Marlins for four minor leaguers.
Craig Mish of the Miami Herald adds that outfielders Dillon Lewis and Brendan Jones and infielders Dylan Jasso and Juan Matheus are heading to the Marlins in the deal. He’s an interesting gamble for the Yankees as a high-upside back-end rotation arm with Gerrit Cole coming back from Tommy John surgery and Carlos Rodón working his way back from elbow surgery. Meanwhile, the Marlins continue clearing the flotsam and jetsam from their rotation mix with top pitching prospects Thomas White and Robby Snelling on the precipice of the big leagues.

Marlins prospect Thomas White is being moved up to Triple-A Jacksonville.
One of the game’s top pitching prospects, White had a 1.59 ERA in 10 starts for Double-A Pensacola after coming in at 2.83 in High-A. Overall, he has a 2.13 ERA and a 128/41 K/BB in 80 1/3 innings this year.

Marlins LHP prospect Thomas White struck out seven over 4 2/3 scoreless innings on Saturday for Double-A Pensacola.
White has blossomed into one of the top pitching prospects in baseball over the last two months since arriving at Double-A Pensacola, piling up 65 strikeouts over 40 1/3 innings (nine starts). The 20-year-old southpaw still has some room for growth in the control department, but it’s becoming relatively easy to envision him missing enough bats to be an impact fantasy contributor at the highest level.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher
Marlins LHP prospect Thomas White recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts over five shutout innings on Saturday for Double-A Pensacola.
White remains one of the more polarizing dynasty pitching prospects, pairing elite strikeout rates with shaky control as he climbs through Miami’s system. If he can take a step forward with his command, he has the raw stuff to develop into a legitimate top-of-the-rotation arm. Even if the walks persist, the strikeouts alone will keep him fantasy-relevant. He’s racked up 33 strikeouts over 20 innings in five starts since his promotion to Double-A in late June and is steadily solidifying himself as a top-50 dynasty prospect.

Thomas White, the 35th overall pick in the 2023 draft, is being promoted to Double-A Pensacola.
White had a 2.83 ERA and a 53/17 K/BB over 35 innings in nine starts for High-A Beloit. He’s one of the game’s top pitching prospects, but he’s probably not going to be rushed to the majors by a Marlins team that is at least two years away from contending. Maybe he’ll debut next summer if he remains healthy.

Marlins LHP prospect Thomas White recorded a season-high eight strikeouts over five shutout innings on Friday for High-A Beloit.
White is one of the most promising pitching prospects in baseball, period. The 20-year-old southpaw’s fastball and slider combination is going to lead to astronomical strikeout totals down the road and make him an impact fantasy contributor. He set down 10 of the final 11 batters he faced on Friday, lowering his full-season ERA to a strong 3.24 mark through six starts for High-A Beloit. He should reach the upper minors at some point in the second half of the year with a chance to make it to Miami in 2026.
