Tom Glavine will start today’s Grapefruit League opener for the Mets.
Glavine is tracking toward an April 6 start in Cincinnati, following Pedro Martinez in the rotation. He needs 165 innings this season for his option to vest, and said he plans to pitch until he’s 41 to get the 38 wins he needs for 300.

“Little sore, but nothing major, I don’t think,” said Glavine, who said no tests are planned. It’s a situation to watch when he starts against Montreal on Wednesday.

Tom Glavine’s next start could be pushed back all the way to next Saturday.
Glavine, who lost his two front teeth in a car accident, was examined by doctors yesterday and deemed not close to being able to pitch. We wouldn’t be surprised to learn the accident caused more damage than just missing teeth and mouth damage. Glavine is a former hockey player, after all.

Glavine won’t start tomorrow, but it looks like he could avoid the disabled list. He’ll throw off the mound Tuesday and could start next Saturday. Grant Roberts will be called up to fill in for Glavine tomorrow.

Tom Glavine played catch yesterday and said he plans to start Friday in Arizona.
If you normally use Glavine he should be okay against the D’Backs, but be aware that the QuesTec system he loathes is also being used in Phoenix.
