Tony Graffanino, already on the DL following knee surgery, will have season-ending surgery to repair his right rotator cuff.
It looks like Ruben Gotay will get a chance to remain Kansas City’s primary second baseman for the rest of the season. Desi Relaford will also see time at the position.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino received the start at shortstop yesterday.
Graffanino went 3-for-5 with a double. Switch-hitting Jose Valentin is still the everyday starter, but his .152 average against lefties in 2002 may earn Graffanino more than the occasional start against southpaws.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino is progressing in his rehab after surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
He is now riding a stationary bike. Graffanino will likely be out of action until the begining of next month.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino is exercising on a bike and could start taking batting practice as soon as Sunday or Tuesday.
Graffanino expects to return in a couple weeks.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
With his throwing program going well, Tony Graffanino believes he’ll start spring training at 100 percent after surgery to repair a torn labrum.
Graffanino is expected to be the Royals’ second baseman on Opening Day, and he’ll probably bat second initially. We doubt he’ll remain a regular all season long, but he could be something of a bargain on draft day.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
The Devil Rays have made offers to free agents Tony Graffanino and Eduardo Perez.
Both players are great platoon partners for left-handed hitters. The Red Sox have also made an offer to Graffanino and might be the top candidates to sign him.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino matched his career high with a 10-game hitting streak.
Graffanino is hitting .435 during his streak and should continue to see plenty of at-bats even now that Desi Relaford is healthy.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino, who had surgery on his left knee yesterday, will be out of action 3-4 weeks.
Although the Royals had originally hoped that Graffanino would return to action in two weeks, there was more damage to his knee cartilage than what was first thought, and he will now have to sit out about a month.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino is hitting only .210 since he took over as the Royals’ leadoff hitter 17 games ago.
With Angel Berroa streaking (11-for-26 last week), manager Tony Pena may be willing to re-install Berroa as his leadoff hitter very shortly.
  • CLE 2nd Baseman
Tony Graffanino (meniscus tear in left knee) could be back in the Royals’ lineup as early as Friday night against the Twins.
He has played well, and felt fine, during a Triple-A rehab stint, and barring a setback, will be activated in the next few days.
