    Miller, supposedly the team’s lefty specialist, has failed in the role, including allowing a grand slam on May 1. Lance Carter, a right-hander whose changeup makes him tough on lefties, is expected to assume the role.

    Miller signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox after being released by the Blue Jays last month. The 38-year-old left-hander has a 4.19 ERA and 11/12 K/BB ratio over 19 1/3 innings between Toronto and St. Louis this season. He likely won’t be trusted in high-pressure situations.

    Cubs released LHP Trevor Miller.
    Miller signed a minor league deal with the Cubbies over the winter, but posted allowed seven runs (five earned) over 8 1/3 innings this spring. The 38-year-old southpaw will have to try to continue his career elsewhere.

    The deal comes with an invitation to spring training, where Miller will get a shot at an Opening Day bullpen spot. If the 38-year-old lefty specialist makes the big league roster, he will earn a salary of $800,000.

    Devil Rays agreed to terms with LHP Trever Miller on a one-year, $1.1 million contract.
    Miller, who held left-handers to a .214/.275/.337 line last season, asked for $850,000 and was offered $1.375 million in arbitration. He’ll continue to be used as a specialist.
