Nationals signed OF Tyler Goeddel to a minor league contract.
Goeddel spent the 2018 season in the minor league systems of the Reds and Dodgers, slashing just .219/.298/.329 over 267 plate appearances between Double-A and Triple-A. The 26-year-old has not seen any MLB action since 2016, when he hit .192/.258/.291 in 234 plate appearances as a rookie outfielder with the Phillies.

Odubel Herrera (foot) is back in the Phillies’ lineup Sunday.
Herrera didn’t start Saturday after fouling a ball off his foot Friday, but it was more about just getting him a breather than anything. He’s leading off and in center field against Tyler Chatwood and the Rockies. The Phillies are giving the red-hot Peter Bourjos a rest Sunday, as Tyler Goeddel is in right field.

Odubel Herrera is out of the Phillies’ starting lineup Wednesday night against the Marlins.
Peter Bourjos will start in center field and Jimmy Paredes will start in right field. Tyler Goeddel is in left. Herrera is batting just .197/.246/.361 in July.

Tyler Goeddel hit a rare home run and drove in three runs on Wednesday.
He finished 2-for-4 on the day. The home run was his fourth in 173 plate appearances. He is batting .216 with a poor .602 OPS. He has stolen only one base all year after swiping 28 in the minors last year.

Rule 5 pick Tyler Goeddel hit a two-run homer off Max Scherzer to give the Phillies their only runs Wednesday.
Goeddel has a .698 OPS, which makes him the Phillies’ best corner outfielder right now. He’ll probably continue to start most of the time, even though the Phillies just brought in another outfield option in Johnny Paredes.

Tyler Goeddel was lifted from Wednesday’s game against the White Sox in the sixth inning after being hit in the head by a pitch.
Chris Beck inadvertently hit Goeddel in the head with one out in the sixth inning. He was immediately checked on by the trainer before walking to the dugout under his own power. Odubel Herrera subsequently came on to pinch-run for the outfielder. The Phillies should provide a further update as to Goeddel’s health and status in the coming hours.

Tyler Goeddel has been diagnosed with a concussion.
Goeddel was hit in the head with a pitch by White Sox reliever Chris Beck on Wednesday. The outfielder is expected to rejoin the Phillies at some point this weekend and will be placed in the league’s concussion protocol. At this late stage of the season, there’s a good chance he’s done for 2016.

Phillies optioned OF Tyler Goeddel to Double-A Reading.
The Phils kept Goeddel around all season last year after picking him in the Rule 5 Draft even though he batted just .192/.258/.291, but now they can send him down without losing him. The 24-year-old could use some more seasoning.

Reds sent OF Tyler Goeddel outright to Triple-A Louisville.
Goeddel was claimed off waivers from the Phillies earlier this week. He’s now off the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization.

Phillies designated OF Tyler Goeddel for assignment.
That clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Brock Stassi. The 24-year-old was optioned to Double-A Reading last week after hitting just .250 over 28 Grapefruit League at-bats. The Phillies could look for a trade partner before putting him through waivers.
