Tyrone Taylor doubled and tripled while scoring a run in a victory for the Mets on Monday over the Diamondbacks.
Somewhat surprisingly, that’s already the third triple of the season for Taylor. Even with the pair of extra-base hits he’s still slashing .258/.303/.398, but a double and triple is always fun.

Tyrone Taylor went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base on Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.
Taylor gave the Mets life with his ninth inning home run and continues to play a tremendous defense in center field for them. Despite a poor .592 OPS on the season, he has a hit in his last three games and has started 14 of the 17 games since Jose Siri went on the injured list. The Mets have been trying Jeff McNeil in center field a bit to keep Luisangel Acuña in the lineup more often, but it’s clear that they’re sacrificing defense if so. Taylor steals enough bases with regular playing time to be borderline viable in very deep leagues.

Tyrone Taylor struck out all four times up against the Phillies on Wednesday.
Taylor, now the Mets’ regular center fielder with Jose Siri injured, is batting .188/.224/.266 in 67 plate appearances, and he’s not quite playing Siri-level defense in the process. It’s hard to see the Mets really getting away with using Jeff McNeil out there, but maybe they’ll instead start Luisangel Acuña some in center with McNeil back Friday. Acuña has yet to play the position in the majors, but he did start 31 games there in Triple-A last year.

Jose Siri is expected to miss 8-10 weeks with a left tibia fracture.
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns laid out the updated timetable, which puts Siri on the shelf until at least mid-to-late June. It’ll be Tyrone Taylor continuing to handle center field for the time being.

Jose Siri has been diagnosed with a fractured left tibia and will be placed on the injured list.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said late Monday that Siri underwent an MRI and CT scan that revealed the fracture. The 29-year-old center fielder suffered the injury during Saturday’s game against the Athletics when he fouled a ball hard off his left shin. He’s going to wind up missing several months, even in a best-case scenario. It’ll be Tyrone Taylor getting the bulk of the playing time in center field in his absence for now.

Jose Siri (shin) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Twins.
Siri is probably going to need a few additional days, and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list, after suffering a painful left shin contusion during Saturday’s showdown against the Athletics. The 29-year-old is undergoing an MRI and CT scan on Monday night to determine whether he’ll need an injured list stint. It’ll be Tyrone Taylor continuing to patrol center field in his absence.

Jose Siri (shin) is absent from the lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Athletics.
No surprise here after Siri left Saturday’s game against the Athletics with a left shin contusion. X-rays came back negative for any fractures, but he’s going to need some time off to rest and recover. It’ll be Tyrone Taylor patrolling center field during Sunday’s series finale in Sacramento.

Jose Siri is on the bench in favor of Tyrone Taylor for a second straight game Tuesday.
Taylor started over Siri in the first two games of the season, but Siri then got the call in six of seven games before taking a seat the last two. Blame Siri’s 1-for-20 start at the plate. The Mets knew they wouldn’t get consistent offense from him, but thus far, he’s not even hitting the ball hard when he does make contact.

Tyrone Taylor is not in the lineup for Saturday’s contest against the Astros.
Taylor will get a break after starting the first two games. Jose Siri is getting the start against Spencer Arrighetti and the Houston bullpen.

Tyrone Taylor underwent an umbilical hernia repair as well on October 30 and also underwent a right elbow loose body removal Thursday.
The Mets announced those operations for Taylor on Friday, and also said that the average timeline for return for both operations was around two months. That should put the outfielder back in plenty of time for spring training, but obviously a complication with either injury could see that timeline change.
