The Orioles are expected to purchase the contract of outfield prospect Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk prior to Sunday’s game.
He’s not on the 40-man roster, so the O’s will have to do some shuffling. Avery, 22, is batting .273/.373/.469 with five homers and eight steals for Norfolk. He could receive some playing time in left field with both Nolan Reimold and Endy Chavez out. Avery will be making his major league debut.

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Orioles optioned OF Xavier Avery to Triple-A Norfolk.
He was likely cleared to make room for Endy Chavez, who is expected to be activated from the disabled list Friday. Avery is hitting .233/.317/.356 with six steals and a .672 OPS in 103 plate appearances at the big league level this season and should be back later this summer.

Xavier Avery went 0-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in Monday’s setback to Boston.
Interestingly, Avery was the only batter on either side not to get a hit. Still, he is off to a good major league start with a .278/.366/.417 triple slash.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.
Avery is starting in left field on Thursday night against the Indians and could be in line for regular playing time while the O’s battle through a multitude of outfield injuries. Avery, 22, hit just .217 with a .615 OPS in 68 plate appearances for Baltimore earlier this year, but he may be a good source of steals in AL-only fantasy leagues.

Orioles recalled OF Xavier Avery from Triple-Norfolk.
Avery hit .278 (5-for-18) during his latest stint in the majors and is capable of backing up all three outfield spots. He could see semi-regular starts behind Nate McLouth in left field, but won’t hold any fantasy value outside of AL-only leagues.

Nolan Reimold acknowledged Monday that he is likely to receive a second epidural shot in his neck.
Orioles manager Buck Showalter said the same thing last week. We should know more after Reimold meets with a doctor Monday night, but he’s clearly not close to returning from the disabled list. Xavier Avery should continue to get most of the playing time in left field.
