Orioles claimed RHP Yosver Zulueta off of waivers from the Cubs; optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

The 28-year-old hurler was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Thursday as they freed up a spot on their active roster for the addition of David Peterson. Zulueta has made 24 appearances at the Triple-A level this season, posting an uninspiring 7.54 ERA, 1.90 WHIP and a 24/20 K/BB ratio across 22 2/3 innings. He’ll function as extra bullpen depth for the Orioles.

Cubs designated RHP Yosver Zulueta for assignment.

It clears room on the 40-man roster for David Peterson. Zulueta was acquired from the Mariners for cash considerations a little over a week ago, and he could be changing organizations again. If he goes unclaimed, Zulueta likely reports back to Triple-A Iowa.

Cubs acquired RHP Yosver Zulueta from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations.

Zulueta was designated for assignment on Wednesday and now has a new home. The 28-year-old has posted a 5.32 ERA and 25/11 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings at the big-league level since 2024. He has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa.

Mariners designated RHP Yosver Zulueta for assignment.

Zulueta never wound up making an appearance for Seattle after being acquired from the Reds in a trade back in January. The 28-year-old righty figures to pass through waivers unclaimed since he holds a pedestrian 5.32 ERA and 25/11 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings at the big-league level since 2024.

Mariners optioned C Jhonny Pereda, RHP Cole Wilcox and RHP Yosver Zulueta to Triple-A Tacoma; reassigned INF/OF Connor Joe and INF Brock Rodden to minor league camp.

Pereda will provide some depth behind the plate in Tacoma. Joe performed admirably this spring, and if he doesn’t report to Triple-A, there could be interest in his bat on the open market.

Mariners acquired RHP Yosver Zulueta from the Reds for RHP Dusty Revis.

Zulueta heads to Seattle just a few hours after being jettisoned from Cincinnati’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old former relief prospect fits the mold for the Mariners bullpen as a sinker/slider combo power arm that holds a serviceable 4.21 FIP and 25/11 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings at the big-league level since 2024.

Reds designated RHP Yosver Zulueta for assignment.

Zulueta has posted a 5.32 ERA over 23 2/3 innings in brief looks with the Reds the last two years, but his mid-90s fastball and slider helped him amass a 31.2% strikeout rate in Triple-A last season. Odds are that some team will decide to give him a look and claim him off waivers.
