Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that despite Yuhei Nakaushiro being reassigned to minor league camp, the club thinks he’s close to being ready for the big leagues.
The 27-year-old southpaw signed a minor league deal prior to the 2016 season and climbed four minor league levels all the way up to Triple-A, compiling a 1.23 ERA and 1.16 WHIP across 29 1/3 innings. Rather than pitching every third day in big league camp, they think he’ll be better served working on his command in the instructional league. Expect to see him in Arizona at some point this season.
