    Muckenhirn went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with the Mariners as extra organizational relief depth. The 28-year-old lefty was acquired from the Mets last month in the Trevor Gott trade and has yet to make an appearance for Seattle.

    The move creates room for Emerson Hancock on the 40-man. Muckenhirn was picked up from the Mets as the return for Chris Flexen and Trevor Gott last month, though that was never really about him. The 28-year-old lefty has a 2.75 ERA but just a 24/15 K/BB in 39 1/3 innings as a Triple-A reliever this year.

    Muckenhirn heads to Triple-A Tacoma to bolster Seattle’s left-handed relief depth for the remainder of the season, and still has a couple years of team control remaining as well. The 28-year-old lefty has made three relief appearances in the majors this season, allowing four runs on 11 hits with a 3/2 K/BB ratio over six innings of work.

    The 28-year-old southpaw has pitched decently in two appearances for the Mets this season -- registering a 2.45 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a 2/1 K/BB ratio in 3 2/3 innings. He’ll add depth in the middle innings for manage Buck Showalter. Steven Nogosek was designated for assignment in a corresponding move on Friday.

    Zach Muckehirn will function as the Mets’ 27th man for Sunday’s doubleheader against the Nationals.
    It is not a traditional doubleheader, but the 28-year-old will be eligible to pitch in the second game on Sunday. Muckenhirn has an excellent 1.04 ERA in eight appearances at Triple-A Syracuse.

    Muckenhirn made his major league debut Thursday against the Tigers and tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings in the second game of the doubleheader. The 28-year-old is on the 40-man roster and should get another chance eventually.

    Muckenhirn joined the Mets in-between the two games of Monday’s doubleheader against the Braves after Denyi Reyes was optioned back to Triple-A. The 28-year-old southpaw holds a terrific 0.77 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 4/4 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings to start the season at Triple-A Syracuse.

    Mets signed LHP Zach Muckenhirn to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
    Muckenhirn has yet to reach the majors and has spent the last six years in the Orioles and White Sox minor league systems. The 27-year-old southpaw finished last season with a respectable 3.11 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 56/23 K/BB ratio across 55 innings (47 appearances) for Triple-A Charlotte. He’ll serve as organizational relief depth for the Mets.
