The 28-year-old right-hander was removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster back in June after posting an 11.25 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and a 5/2 K/BB ratio over four innings with the Dodgers. He’ll look for another opportunity on the open market, though he’ll most likely have to settle for a minor league deal.

Burdi had been designated for assignment late last week, but passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Dodgers at the Triple-A level. There’s a possibility he’ll sneak through waivers and remain with Los Angeles as organizational relief depth. The 28-year-old righty has made three appearances this season at the big league level.

While the 28-year-old hasn’t enjoyed much success in the majors so far, the Dodgers apparently see some potential with the former 2016 first-round pick.

Making his first appearance since being brought back to the majors, Burdi gave up six runs -- five earned -- in his inning Tuesday in the 20-1 loss to the Jays. No one claimed him while he was on waivers a couple of weeks ago, so it seems likely that he’ll clear again.

Burdi will be available out of Tampa Bay’s bullpen for Monday’s series opener against the Blue Jays with veteran lefty Jake Diekman going on the paternity leave list. The 28-year-old former first-round pick has tossed three scoreless innings with a 4/1 K/BB ratio over a pair of relief appearances this season in the majors.

Burdi is back with the Rays after clearing waivers earlier this month. He pitched three scoreless innings in two earlier appearances for Tampa Bay. He’s given up seven runs and walked eight in 11 1/3 innings in the minors.

Burdi was sent back to Triple-A last week after pitching three scoreless innings for the Rays. Some team might claim him off waivers, though it’s worth nothing that he’s currently throwing 92-95 mph and not the high-90s he worked at back in his prospect days.
