It’s always a good thing when the Mayor gives back to a community.

In this case, the Mayor is James Hinchcliffe, and the community is actually 12 communities that have been affected by the tragic, ongoing wildfires in Alberta province, most notably Fort McMurray.

Hinchcliffe, who of course serves as the mayor of his fictional town of “Hinchtown” but is the real-life only full-time Canadian in the Verizon IndyCar Series and driver of the No. 5 Arrow Schmidt Peterson Motorsports Honda, is stepping up to donate his winnings from this weekend’s Angie’s List Grand Prix of Indianapolis to the Canadian Red Cross. That should help support more than 14,000 families and 12 communities.

“It is heartbreaking to see so many people who have lost their homes,” Hinchcliffe said in a release.

“The Canadian Red Cross has been doing a tremendous job. We just pray that the weather will co-operate and any further damage can be contained. In the meantime I want to offer support for those affected.”

This isn’t the only good charitable cause Hinchcliffe is doing. He also has the “Hinchcliffe Hundred Blood Drive” this Friday, which runs from 3 to 8 p.m. ET and local time. More information is linked below in the tweet, including the event link.

Hinchcliffe heads into the Grand Prix this weekend currently 12th in Verizon IndyCar Series points.

Last year he finished 12th in the race; meanwhile in 2014, he sustained a concussion after he was struck in the head by a piece of debris. He missed a couple days of practice but resumed in his then-No. 27 Andretti Autosport Honda later that week.
