Alex Bowman wasn’t the only driver who felt the heat in Sunday’s 5-Hour Energy 301 Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Bowman got heated up by a fire that broke out in the right front wheel well of his car coming off pit road, and eventually consumed the engine compartment.
But temperatures approaching the 90s, as well as high humidity, impacted many of the drivers in the race’s 43-car field.
Drivers including AJ Allmendinger, Michael Annett and Matt DiBenedetto were all treated at the infield care center after the race and released.
Race winner Kyle Busch tried to stay cool behind the wheel.
“This is one of the warmest days I think I’ve ever remembered up here in this part of the country,” Busch said after the race. “Fortunately for me, I was all good.
“I’ve got a really good team of guys that work on my seat for me. I’ve really been nitpicking them a lot this year to try to get more and more comfortable each week. It’s really paying off now hopefully that they see us winning some races. I’m thankful to them for giving me the right cooling and everything I needed. That was good.”
