Two days of rain and weepers - water seeping from the ground to the track - have left some competitors frustrated.
NASCAR Sprint Cup teams had two two-hour practices canceled by rain and weepers Wednesday and had a Thursday practice also canceled. The Camping World Truck Series is set to race tonight after practice and qualifying was canceled by the conditions.
It’s part of a wet weather cycle Kentucky Speedway, located in Sparta, Ky., has experienced in recent weeks.
Sparta, Ky., had 7.33 inches of rain in June - the average for that month is 4.03 inches of rain - according to the National Weather Service.
Already this month, Sparta, Ky., has had 2.38 inches of rain. The average amount of rainfall for the month is 3.76 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers have begun expressing their frustration on social media about the weepers.
Kevin Harvick expressed his displeasure on Wednesday:
This track has been weeping since I started coming here in 2000. Really no excuse it should still be this way but we'll try again tomorrow.
