NASCAR places crew chief Cole Pearn on probation for roof flap violation

NASCAR has issued a penalty to Cole Pearn for a roof flap violation during Daytona 500 qualifying. As a result, Pearn has been placed on probation through December 31.

NASCAR placed Cole Pearn, crew chief for Martin Truex Jr., on probation through Dec. 31 for a roof flap violation. The violation was a P2 penalty.

Truex’s car was in the qualifying line Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway when a series official noticed an issue with the roof flap. The car was sent back to the inspection area and the roof flap was examined and photographed. The team was unable to return to the qualifying line in time, forcing Truex to start his qualifying race at the back of the field.

NASCAR also announced warnings to Sprint Cup teams. The teams of Regan Smith (No. 7, Tommy Baldwin Racing), Landon Cassill (No. 38, Front Row Motorsports), Brian Scott (No. 44, Richard Petty Motorsports), and Michael Annett (No. 46, HScott Motorsports). Each team received a warning for failing the laser inspection station twice in pre-qualifying inspection.
