Office supply manufacturer 3M is reducing the number of races it will sponsor the No. 24 of Chase Elliott in the Sprint Cup Series next season, according to Sports Business Daily.
The report states after serving as primary sponsor for Jeff Gordon in 11 races in 2015, 3M will only sponsor Elliott, a rookie, for five races.
The 2015 season was initially the first of a three-year deal in which 3M would sponsor the No. 24 in 11 races each year. The company had been partnered with Roush Fenway Racing for almost a decade.
With NAPA Auto Parts serving as primary sponsor in 24 races, seven of the 36 races in Elliott’s rookie season are accounted for. Elliott will be the first driver to race the No. 24 after Gordon ran it in 797 Sprint Cup races dating back to November 1992.
