Khris Middleton (knee) is available to play against the Grizzlies on Saturday.
Middleton will be back after missing the last four games. Bilal Coulibaly (ankle) has been ruled out, so Middleton will likely just fill his spot in the starting lineup, which also means Bub Carrington should remain in the starting unit.
  • WAS Guard-Forward #9
CJ McCollum, Tre Johnson, Kyshawn George, Justin Champagnie and Alex Sarr against the Mavericks on Saturday.
George is back, but Khris Middleton is out, so those two wings will swap spots. The change is Champagnie replacing Bub Carrington, who will still play a large role off the bench. Johnson will get his second straight start after starting for the first time in his career on Friday.
  • WAS Forward #18
Kyshawn George (illness) is available to play against the Mavericks on Saturday.
George will be back after missing Friday’s game against Cleveland. Both Bub Carrington and Tre Johnson started with George and Bilal Coulibaly (leg) out. Coulibaly is still out, so only one of Carrington and Johnson will remain in the starting lineup, though both should play big minutes.
  • WAS Guard #0
Bilal Coulibaly (leg) has been ruled out against the Cavaliers on Friday.
Coulibaly exited early from Wednesday’s game, and he’ll be held out at least one more game. Bub Carrington and Tre Johnson are the top options to receive extended minutes with Coulibaly out. Carrington was a starter at the beginning of the year while Coulibaly was sidelined and played 31 minutes on Wednesday.
  • WAS Forward #22
Khris Middleton (elbow) has been ruled out against the Knicks on Monday.
Middleton will be sidelined for the first time this season after initially being listed as questionable. That opens a spot in the starting unit, which could be filled by Bub Carrington or Tre Johnson, though Corey Kispert and Cam Whitmore could also be in line for extra minutes.
  • WAS Point Guard
Carlton Carrington went to the locker room with a leg injury during Sunday’s Wizards-Magic game.
Bub was underwhelming in his start against Orlando and tallied just four points on 2-of-5 shooting with two rebounds and three assists before heading to the locker room. Whether his leg injury is something to worry about remains to be seen.
  • WAS Point Guard
Carlton Carrington finished Saturday’s 91-79 win over Milwaukee with 13 points (5-of-14 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), 15 rebounds, five assists, two steals, and one 3-pointer in 35 minutes.
Despite Saturday’s game being Washington’s of summer league, the Wizards had their first-round pick shoulder a full workload. Bub played 35 of a possible 40 minutes and was highly active on the boards, grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds while accumulating 13 points and five assists. Washington added Malcolm Brogdon via the Deni Avdija trade, and he should serve as a quality mentor to Carrington as he gets used to the NBA game. While he will not be an elite fantasy option immediately, Washington being in rebuild mode makes Carrington one of the more attractive rookies in fantasy basketball.
  • WAS Point Guard
Carlton Carrington struggled with his shot on Thursday and contributed nine points (2-of-10 FGs), five rebounds, three assists, one steal, two blocks and two triples against the Kings.
Bub hasn’t shot the ball well this summer, but this was the first game that he really struggled. He has been a consistent contributor of assists so far, but he finished with less than five dimes for the first time this summer in this game. Carrington is going to get the chance to work through mistakes during his rookie season, even if his shot isn’t falling. That may not play well for managers that are trying to be competitive in the field goal percentage category, but he should put up some fun numbers during his rookie year.
  • WAS Point Guard
Carlton Carrington finished Sunday’s 109-91 loss to the Rockets with 18 points (5-of-16 FGs, 4-of-6 FTs), four rebounds, five assists, and four 3-pointers in 34 minutes.
Carrington is a smooth point guard with range well beyond the 3-point line, and those skills were on display on Sunday. Unfortunately, the struggles finishing around the basket were as well. Bub shot 1-of-6 from two on the day, and that’s where he’ll need to make his most significant strides as a pro. The opportunity to learn from Malcolm Brogdon will help Carrington as he develops into potentially being Washington’s point guard of the future.
  • WAS Point Guard
Washington has selected Carlton Carrington with the No. 14 pick in the draft.
The 6-foot-3 3/4 guard from Baltimore played very well during his lone season at Pitt, earning ACC All-Rookie Team honors. In 33 games, Carrington averaged 13.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 0.6 steals, and 2.0 3-pointers, shooting 41.2% from the field and 78.5% from the foul line. While the field-goal percentage suggests some inefficiency on the part of Carrington, he finished the season with a relatively low turnover percentage (13.0) and a respectable offensive rating of 111.5. A little over half of his shot attempts were from beyond the arc, and Carrington struggled finishing around the basket. He didn’t test well athletically at the combine, but the ability to both run an offense and hit perimeter shots is why “Bub” was expected to land in the first round. Washington traded for this pick earlier in the day in the deal that sent Deni Avdija for Portland. Bub will get to learn from Malcolm Brogdon in year one and play alongside Jordan Poole in the backcourt. This is an excellent landing spot for him to make some noise in year one.
