Chris Johnson scored a career-high 10 points in 22 minutes against Brooklyn on Friday.
He signed a 10-day deal on Tuesday due to solid play in the D-League. In 21 D-League games, Johnson 2.6 points, 4 rebounds and 1.81 steals with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He’s not on the fantasy radar, though.
  • HOU Small Forward #8
The Grizzlies have signed Chris Johnson to a second 10-day contract.
Johnson, an undrafted SF, is shooting 33 percent from downtown in five games with Memphis. He may not stick with the team after this deal ends and there’s no reason to bother with him in standard fantasy leagues.
  • HOU Small Forward #8
Chris Johnson’s second 10-day contract has expired and he wil not be re-signed for the remainder of the season.
Johnson will look to latch on with another team now that his time with the Grizzlies is complete.
  • HOU Small Forward #8
The Grizzlies are expected to re-sign Chris Johnson to another 10-day contract.
Such a move would allow Johnson to stick with the Grizz through the All-Star break, but if the team wanted to keep him beyond a second 10-day deal, they’d have to sign him for the remainder of the season.
  • HOU Small Forward #8
Grizzlies signed G/F Chris Johnson to a 10-day contract.
The Grizz are adding cheap, warm bodies to their roster after executing a salary dump trade Tuesday morning. Johnson has emerged as one of the better players in the D-League and will get a crack at filling the old Wayne Ellington role in Memphis.
  • HOU Small Forward #8
With Rudy Gay heading to Toronto the Grizzlies are without a starting small forward until they flip Jose Calderon for one, meaning Chris Johnson could draw a few starts.
The Grizzlies are expected to land a guy like Tayshaun Prince or Corey Maggette from Detroit, or Vince Carter from Dallas, in exchange for Calderon. And if it happens to be Maggette, his body probably isn’t ready to handle starter’s minutes. Johnson is not a must-add fantasy player, but could see a boost in value with this deal.
  • CLE Shooting Guard #15
Austin Daye is not expected to play on Thursday, but should be available for the Grizzlies on Friday.
Daye, like Tayshaun Prince and Ed Davis, are expected to make their Grizzlies debut on Friday. Daye has real sleeper appeal with no clear starter at small forward in Memphis, and he’s shown an ability to contribute in multiple categories when given the opportunity.
  • SAS Power Forward #33
Interim coach Terry Porter said he expects Dante Cunningham (illness) to be able to play against the Rockets on Saturday.
The Wolves need him badly with Nikola Pekovic out and very thin with only Greg Stiemsma as their only true center. Cunningham will get minutes at the center spot and is worth owning in some deeper formats. Derrick Williams may see a ton of minutes at power forward while newly-signed Chris Johnson could be sprung into action, too.
  • SAS Power Forward #33
Updating a previous item, Dante Cunningham (illness) will not play against the Rockets on Saturday.
The Wolves are in deep trouble tonight against the Rockets, who have the fastest pace in the NBA. Derrick Williams is going to have to log a ton of minutes while Greg Stiemsma has a chance to break his career high of 29 minutes. Chris Johnson and Mickael Gelabale will also see some run.
  • SAS Power Forward #33
Dante Cunningham played 39 minutes against the Heat on Monday, scoring eight points with 11 boards, two assists, one steal and one block.
He’s the clear winner of the Nikola Pekovic injury news with Chris Johnson (two points in six minutes) and Greg Stiemsma (no points in nine minutes) barely cracking the rotation. Cunningham does have some low-level upside in the short term, so owners in deeper leagues can give him a look.
