Although it was reported yesterday that the Mavs signed Jeryl Sasser on Friday, it now appears that Sasser will join another team. That’s why Lopez is being brought in.

Coach Mike Dunleavy said his Christmas wish list included a couple of guards. Kerry Kittles (back), Quinton Ross (hip) and Marko Jaric (foot) all sat out of yesterday’s practice, and Corey Maggette (groin) worked only lightly. Now Bobby Simmons has come down with a sore foot, while Shaun Livingston is on the IL with a knee injury.

Lopez, who will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, is out for the season recovering from surgery to repair the torn MCL and ACL in his left knee. He still has several more weeks of rehab left.

He made his only shot attempt, a three-pointer.

Lopez was last seen with the Dallas Mavericks, and is hoping for a roster spot with the Magic.
