JaKarr Sampson left St. John’s early to enter the NBA draft, and as expected, went undrafted.
But Sampson is still getting his shot at the NBA.
The 76ers have signed former St. John’s forward JaKarr Sampson to a partially guaranteed contract, an NBA source told the Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.
The 76ers have so many players of his caliber – borderline NBA – in the ranks. There’s really no telling which will make the final squad.
On most teams, a partial guarantee would give Sampson a leg up over his teammates without a guarantee. But Philadelphia is so far below the salary floor, eating the partial guarantee of what’s surely a minimum contract is no big deal.
Sampson is a prime candidate to get waived before the season and assigned to the 76ers’ D-League affiliate. But considering how thin the line is between the 87ers and 76ers, that also makes Sampson a prime candidate to stick with the top club.
