As the Blazers battle for playoff seeding in the Western Conference, they’ve suffered an unfortunate loss. Meyers Leonard will undergo shoulder surgery and miss the rest of the season, the team announced Thursday in a press release:

Portland Trail Blazers forward Meyers Leonard will undergo surgery to repair his injured left shoulder and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season, the team announced today.

The surgery is scheduled to be performed on Friday, April 8 by Dr. Neal ElAttrache at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles.

A prognosis on Leonard’s return will be made following the procedure.

For Leonard, this injury is ill-timed. He’s set to hit restricted free agency this summer and will look to get a big deal with the rising salary cap. As a big man who can stretch they floor, there will be a market for him.
