The Cavaliers will once again be the hottest sports ticket in town, now that LeBron James and Kevin Love have been added to a team that will be expected to contend for a title, and do so as quickly as next season.
In an effort to allow more of the true fans to see the games in person, regardless of economic stature, the team has put an interesting policy into place regarding how it will sell single game tickets for the upcoming season.
From Jason Lloyd of the Akron Beacon Journal:The Cavaliers are instituting a monthly lottery to try and fairly meet the incredible demands for single-game tickets, the team announced on Friday. ...
The team said it is instituting this new concept to try and keep single-game tickets out of the hands of brokers and scalpers. The officially authorized secondary market Flash Seats is still available, however, for fans who get shut out of the lottery.
“It’s a fact that the high demand for tickets far exceeds the supply,” Cavs CEO Len Komoroski said in a statement. “We were committed to find a way to strategically help manage a ticket buying process that would protect the integrity of the purchase for our true fans, and we believe a timed monthly lottery will help ensure that is the case.”
It’s a good idea by the team to try to give the true fans access, because as we’ve seen around the league, games can have a quiet, corporate vibe if attended by those mostly in receipt of tickets from a company that can afford the sometimes astronomical cost.
Tickets will still end up on the secondary market, of course, because demand will just be that high. But the team is doing its part to help fans see LeBron and company do their thing in person.
