David Lee compares Brad Stevens’ coaching style to Steve Kerr

David Lee was put in a tough spot this season when Steve Kerr asked him to come off the bench. His role diminished and he all but fell out of the rotation entirely by the Finals. The tradeoff, of course, was that the Warriors won the title, and Lee has been nothing but gracious about accepting his role publicly. Then, he was traded to the Celtics over the summer, going from the defending champions and the favorites to repeat to a team that will have to scrap to get into the playoffs. But after the first day of camp, Lee is impressed with Brad Stevens and sees a lot of similarities between his new coach and his old one.

This isn’t a surprise: in his first two years on the job in Boston, Stevens has proven very popular with his players and gotten a lot out of a roster that had no right to be as good as last year’s Celtics team was. The fact that Lee, who has seen up close what goes into a championship team, is praising Stevens like this is only going to further that reputation, which bodes well for the Celtics’ future.
