Delonte West reportedly to suit up in D-League, with NBA teams watching
When the Dallas Mavericks cut Delonte West this preseason for “conduct detrimental to the team” no NBA team jumped in and picked him up. This is a guy who is 29 years old and averaged 9.6 points a game last season, he was a solid NBA bench and role player. You have to be quite the disruption and problem for teams to walk away from that kind of production.
West’s way back into the NBA was to play a while in the D-League and show not only that his still has some skills but also that he can be a good teammate. He had been scheduled to play with the Texas Legends but backed out. Which didn’t help his cause.
Now apparently he is back in, tweets Marc Stein of ESPN.
And Knicks, I'm told, are indeed among teams that will be monitoring Delonte's play to see how he fares— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) March 15, 2013
The Knicks could certainly use some guard help under the age of 50.
West is a complex guy dealing with a bipolar disorder — he’s not a bad person but he doesn’t always fit neatly into the team mold franchises want off the court. He wore out his welcome in Dallas, about the most player-friendly organization in the league.
But if you can produce there seemingly is always another chance. And West has got one, we’ll see if he can grab hold of it.
