Kenyon Martin plans to play Saturday

Kenyon Martin’s head is ready to get back in the game. His right knee... that remains to be seen.

Martin said he wants to return to the Nuggets lineup Saturday in an effort to help the team keep it’s current number two seed in the crowded West, according to the Associated Press. Denver has three games left before the playoffs start.

“I just don’t want to go out there rusty, right into a game situation,” Martin said. “The last three games are a possibility. It will depend on how I feel. If I’m in any pain or what not, then no. But as of right now, I don’t have any pain. But I’ve got to do one of these last three if I’m going to play [before the playoffs].”

With a healthy Martin, the Nuggets are contenders, a team that could threaten the Lakers in the West. Without him at 100 percent, they don’t have the length up front (providing the Lakers get Andrew Bynum back and healthy). He said his knee has responded well to hard workouts and some one-on-one games, but now comes the real test. For his knee and the Nuggets’ chances.
