While the Cavs wait for a definitive timeline for Kyrie Irving’s return from knee surgery, they’re also waiting for Kevin Love to get healthy. Love had surgery in April to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder after suffering the injury in Game 4 of the Cavaliers’ first-round series against the Celtics. The Cavs made the Finals without him, and he signed a five-year max contract to return to Cleveland this offseason. But with training camp rapidly approaching, Love still isn’t quite ready to return to action. In a Friday night appearance on NBC’s Late Night With Seth Meyers (video here), Love admitted that he’s still at least a month away from being ready to play.
Training camp opens two weeks from Monday, and the Cavs’ season tips off on October 27 in Chicago. It sounds like Love won’t be ready to start camp, but he should be back before the start of the season, even on the longer end of that month-to-six-weeks estimate. It isn’t an official timeline given by the doctors, just a ballpark estimate Love gave on a late-night talk show, but it’s a good sign that he’s feeling good and shouldn’t be limited much by the injury this season.
