Plenty of teams break out throwback jerseys from time to time, but the one that the Nuggets chose to wear for a home game on March 17 bears some significance that goes beyond just fashion.
In the playoffs that year, Denver became the first eight seed to knock off a one seed. The Seattle Supersonics club won 63 games during the regular season and featured Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, but fell to the Nuggets in five games.
With the first round of the playoffs now the same as the rest of them -- requiring four games to advance instead of three -- it’s going to take a unique set of circumstances for that feat to be repeated. But if nothing else, it may remind the current players that despite the down season, it’s possible to rise up as an underdog when other teams least expect it.#Nuggets teammates Wilson Chandler, Randy Foye, @TyLawson3 & @KennethFaried35 don 1993-94 uniforms. #8over1 pic.twitter.com/BnYqBZzcXO
