The LA Times’ Gary Klein expects Rams undrafted rookie WR Nelson Spruce to make the initial 53-man roster.
Spruce caught six passes in the first preseason game, but he did not play the rest of the way. Even so, Klein thinks he did enough in rookie camp and OTAs to earn a roster spot. The Pac-12’s all-time receptions leader, Spruce will likely be gameday inactive even if he makes the roster.

Rams placed WR Nelson Spruce (calf) on injured reserve.
Spruce had been a weekly inactive. With Lamarus Joyner (ankle) questionable, the Rams promoted DB Blake Countess from the practice squad.

Rams designated WR Nelson Spruce (calf, IR) for return.
Spruce can practice, but isn’t eligible to play Sunday.

No surprises for the rebuilding Rams. A hyped 2016 UDFA, Spruce couldn’t get on the field as a rookie before spending time on injured reserve with a calf injury. He turns 25 in December.

    Chargers signed WR Nelson Spruce.
An UDFA out of Colorado in 2016, Spruce spent his rookie season with the Rams before landing on the Bears’ practice squad last year. He is a long-shot to crack the final roster.

Rams signed Colorado WR Nelson Spruce.
Spruce (6'1/206) set a Pac 12 record for career receptions (294) as a four-year starter for the Buffs, also setting CU school records in receiving yards (3,347) and receiving TDs (23). He was exposed badly at the Combine, running 4.69 with a 9-foot-6 broad jump and just 12 bench-press reps. Sure handed and functional only in the short to intermediate areas, Spruce will need to show special teams and slot receiver value in order to become an NFL factor.
