Antowain Smith will get six to eight carries tonight for the Titans.
Smith, a notoriously slow starter, will need a good camp to be a major fantasy factor this season.
  • HOU Running Back
The Patriots decided not to pick up the option on Antowain Smith’s contract, making the 31 year-old running back a free agent.
The team was trying to renegotiate a lower deal, but could not reach an agreement by their self-imposed one-week deadline. Belichick wished Smith continued success in the future, meaning he’s not likely to re-sign with the Patriots. Smith was one of 11 Patriots to start in both Super Bowls. He’ll likely catch on as a cheap, goal-line style running back somewhere. The Patriots only other running back on the roster now is Kevin Faulk, who becomes a free agent next month.
  • HOU Running Back
The Titans signed Antowain Smith to a one-year contract.
That didn’t take long. Smith’s signing is actually good news for second-year pro Chris Brown. Brown will be the heavy favorite to win the majority of carries this season. Smith will be useful in short-yardage situations, but is likely a backup. Tennessee also would not mind if Smith began playing excellent once December hits, as was his custom in New England. Smith looks like a 12th-14th round selection to us.
  • HOU Running Back
FA Antowain Smith visited the Titans yesterday.
If Eddie George decides to leave, Smith could provide a competent between-the-tackles runner to complement starter Chris Brown. Smith’s y/c are very similar to George’s over the last three seasons.
  • HOU Running Back
Veteran RB Antowain Smith will start the Texans’ preseason opener.
With Domanick Davis’ major knee issues, Smith is a must-have for Davis owners. Davis will not play in the game.
  • HOU Running Back
The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reports Antowain Smith is in danger of not making the Texans.
Smith appeared a fine handcuff for Domanick Davis and even a possible starter due to Davis’ knee troubles, but rookies Wali Lundy and Chris Taylor have more value because they can play special teams.
  • HOU Running Back
Antowain Smith is the early favorite for Houston’s backup job.
It appears Vernand Morency will battle Wali Lundy for the No. 3 job. That makes Smith, 34, draftable in fantasy leagues once again if the team doesn’t add more talent. He would be backing up an injury-prone starter on a run-heavy team.
  • HOU Running Back
    Texans released RB Antowain Smith.
The Texans smartly went young at the position, choosing undrafted free agent Chris Taylor over Smith. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Smith, who averaged four yards-per-carry for the Saints in 2005, to find one last team to join.
  • HOU Running Back
Antowain Smith carried the ball seven times for eight yards in his second preseason game.
Smith has shown nothing to suggest he’ll be a serious threat to Chris Brown in Tennessee. We’d guess Smith will earn 5-7 short-yardage carries to start the season.
  • HOU Running Back
Antowain Smith has replaced Chris Brown in the second half of today’s game.
Now word on the severity of Brown’s injury. Smith would obviously be a hot pick-up next week if it’s serious. He gained forty yards on 11 carries, but fumbled the ball twice.
