Eagles placed Ben VanSumeren (knee) on injured reserve.
The first injury of the season chronologically, blocking fullback VanSumeren looks likely to miss the rest of the season. He’ll miss at least the next four weeks, and the Eagles may look to find another fullback off the street or on someone else’s practice squad.

Eagles FB Ben VanSumeren has been ruled out of Philadelphia’s Week 1 game against the Cowboys with a knee injury.
A lead blocker trying to get a toehold on special teams, VanSumeren appeared to blow out his right knee on the game’s opening kick. Not good. The 25-year-old managed just 22 snaps on offense last season.

Michigan State redshirt senior LB Ben VanSumeren has withdrawn his name from the transfer portal.
VanSumeren (6'2/253) entered the transfer portal in mid-March after seeing little action during his four-year career with the Spartans. Having seen just 199 defensive snaps per PFF, VanSumeren has just 20 career tackles, with most of his action coming on special teams. Now entering his fifth season with the program, VanSumeren reportedly saw a significant amount of work during the team’s spring game on Saturday. His brother, Alex, is a four-star recruit who committed to Michigan State for the upcoming season.

Michigan State redshirt junior LB Ben VanSumeren has entered the transfer portal.
VanSumeren (6'2/253) was a three-star athlete from the 2018 recruiting class and originally committed to Michigan. He transferred to Michigan State ahead of the 2021 season, and is now on the move again. A native of Essexville, Michigan, VanSumeren has played in-state his whole career, but may need to look outside his hometown for playing time in 2022. Per PFF.com, VanSumeren has totaled 20 tackles on 199 defensive snaps. His brother, Alex, was a four-star recruit of Michigan State’s 2022 recruiting class.

Michigan redshirt sophomore LB Ben VanSumeren transferred to Michigan State.
VanSumeren (6'2/253) hopped into the transfer portal just over a week ago. With some of the changes Michigan made to its defensive staff, it makes sense a couple defenders may want to look for fresh starts. It seems VanSumeren’s transfer had nothing to do with the Michigan area, though, since he’s just barely moving over to Michigan State. VanSumeren’s brother -- Alex, a three-star 2022 DT -- also recently decommitted from Michigan, and it’s entirely possible the two will link up now at Michigan State.

Michigan redshirt sophomore LB Ben VanSumeren entered the transfer portal.
Van Sumeren (6'2/253) entered the portal less than a day after his younger brother, Alex, decommitted from the Wolverines. He was brought in as a fullback, and managed to punch in a touchdown back in 2019, until transitioning to linebacker this year where he played 76 snaps and made two starts. The Essexville Michigan product will now likely form a package-deal with his three-star 2022 DT brother.

Iowa received a verbal commitment from three-star 2018 ATH Ben VanSumeren.
VanSumeren (6'3/215) had once been committed to Western Michigan before he reopened his recruitment to the Hawkeyes’ ultimate benefit. Iowa originally offered to him on Oct. 5. The Esexville, Michigan, native ran the 40-yard dash in 4.76 seconds at The Opening over the summer. He opted for HC Kirk Ferentz’s squad over the likes of Missouri and Iowa State. Iowa is up to 14 commitments for the 2018 cycle. VanSumeren could potentially play either tight end or linebacker at the collegiate level.
