Packers signed DT Cameron Young, formerly of the Seahawks.
Young is a former fourth-round pick of the Seahawks, playing in 17 games over two seasons. He tallied 18 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a pass defended as a rookie but did not register anything of note in his second season. The Seahawks cut the 25-year-old in April and he now joins the Packers as defensive line depth heading into minicamp.
  • FA Nose Tackle #93
    Seahawks waived DT Cameron Young.
A fourth-round pick in 2023, Young appeared in 16 games as a rookie but didn’t do much of note, recording 18 total tackles and one TFL. He opened his second season on the PUP list with a knee issue. He was eventually activated but only appeared in one game. Young’s draft pedigree should earn him a second chance in the league, though he will need to prove he’s healthy over the summer to earn a roster spot.
  • FA Nose Tackle
Seahawks selected Mississippi State DL Cameron Young with the No. 123 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The 105th-ranked defensive tackle in the 2018 recruiting class, Young (6’4/306) is a two-gapping menace at the point of attack. While he is a stationary operator, he also won’t give up ground even when engaged with two blockers. At first glance, he has way longer arms than expected. While you would expect someone with that wingspan to be able to generate more movement at the point of attack, his arms are already compensating for a very high pad level. Young likes to face linemen head up at times but doesn’t gain too much ground against a single blocker either. Instead, he is at his best when he can weave in and out between two linemen to find the ball and force it to his linebackers. This explains why his production profile is lackluster, to say the least. Needless to say, humans of Young’s size are uncommon and similar to someone like Eddie Goldman. He will likely play a traditional nose tackle role where he can two-gap and free up other defenders behind him.
