Free agent RB/KR Chad Simpson will try out for the Saints in this weekend’s minicamp.
Simpson, a kickoff returner and fourth-string running back in Indy the past two years, was recently waived by the Colts. He’d be nothing more than a special teamer if he impresses the Saints this weekend.
  • WAS Running Back
Bills signed RB/KR Chad Simpson, formerly of the Colts, to an undisclosed contract.
It’s hard to imagine a worse situation for Simpson to earn a roster spot. The Bills are three-deep at running back, and Simpson’s kickoff return experience matters little with the much more explosive C.J. Spiller and Leodis McKelvin as premier options.
  • SEA Running Back #24
Bob Matthews of the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle believes that Marshawn Lynch is more likely to be traded now that Chad Simpson is in the mix.
The Bills have denied that Lynch is on the trading block, but the reality of the situation is that they are probably asking for too much in return. We’re pretty surprised that Lynch is still on the Bills. Simpson is just a returner and may not even make the team, so he’s not a factor.
  • WAS Running Back
    Colts waived RB Chad Simpson.
Mike Hart will replace him on the active roster. Simpson had been handling kickoff returns, but he suffered an abdominal injury in Week 3.

Chad Simpson rushed three times for 35 yards and a touchdown in the Colts’ Week 7 blowout win over the Rams.
Simpson also caught a two-yard pass. He served as Joseph Addai’s backup once Donald Brown hit the trainer’s table with a shoulder injury and showed good speed on his 31-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He may have value next week against the 49ers if Brown’s injury proves serious.

    Colts re-signed RB/KR Chad Simpson.
Simpson was just released after suffering an abdominal injury, but it looks like he’s healthy enough to resume kick returning duties.
  • FA Running Back
Speaking on NFL Network Tuesday, Colts president Bill Polian indicated that Donald Brown could miss 2-3 weeks with a shoulder contusion.
Brown is almost certainly going to miss this week’s game against the Niners, and it’s not looking good for next week either. Mike Hart will be active this week and is expected to handle backup duties over Chad Simpson. Joseph Addai could see a slight increase in carries as well.
  • WAS Running Back
Colts RB Chad Simpson suffered a head injury in the second quarter Sunday and is questionable to return.
The Colts are thin at running back with both Simpson and Joseph Addai (finger) on the sidelines. Donald Brown must step up against the Patriots.
