Boswell’s $7 million AAV on his new deal ties with Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey for the highest in league history at the position. Boswell, 35, converted 27-of-32 field goals (84.4 percent) last season and is one of the best kickers in league history from distances of 50-plus yards, as he’s 52-for-63 lifetime. This new deal keeps him under contract with the Steelers through 2030, all but ensuring he’ll have the chance to spend his entire career with one organization.

Matthew Wright was released in an associated move. Boswell had made 12-of-16 field goal attempts and all nine point after tries prior to landing on the injured reserve with a groin injury.

The Steelers’ kicker since 2015, Boswell hasn’t played since Week 7. Even were he to return against the Ravens, this is not an offense where fantasy managers should be looking for streaming options.

He hadn’t practiced either day this week so far, so this isn’t surprising. The Steelers signed Matthew Wright to the 53-man roster recently, and he will assume duties with Boswell on injured reserve. He’s probably not a useful fantasy kicker against the Saints.

This could mean the team expects Chris Boswell to miss more time with a groin injury he suffered three weeks ago. Boswell missed the team’s Week 8 loss to the Eagles and probably won’t be ready to go out of their Week 9 bye. Wright, who has made 28 of his 32 field goal tries in three NFL seasons, would be a desperation fantasy option if he gets the call this week against the Saints.

Nick Sciba will kick for the Steelers with Boswel (groin) sidelined. Sciba is not a fantasy option in leagues that use kickers.

Boswell was a late week addition to the injury report with a groin injury, likely indicating something popped up during the practice week. The Steelers don’t hold a kicker on their practice squad, leaving the situation currently up in the air for Sunday. Expect the team to announce a signing prior to Week 8’s 1pm EST kickoff.

Pittsburgh doesn’t have another kicker on the practice squad, but will probably have a quick signing in order for Saturday if they don’t think Boswell will be active. Either Boswell or the backup kicker is a tough streaming option to count on against Philadelphia’s high-powered defense.

The last member standing of Pittsburgh’s “Killer B’s”, Boswell is now tied with Justin Tucker as the highest-paid kickers in the league. Boswell’s deal includes $12.5 million in guarantees. He has connected on at least 90 percent of his field goal attempts in four of the past five seasons. His hit rate on extra points has never dipped below 89 percent. Boswell’s accuracy while kicking for a capable offense makes him one of the best fantasy options at the position every year, and 2022 is no different.

Boswell was not able to finish Pittsburgh’s Week 8 win over the Browns due to a concussion, but he got in a limited session on Thursday before a full practice on Friday. It looks likely he is ready to return on Monday night against the Bears. Boswell has averaged just under two field goal attempts per game so far this season.
