The Packers’ initial 53-man roster will feature three running backs after Josh Jacobs was put on the commissioner’s exempt list. Martinez and Pierre Strong were fighting for a depth spot, but Green Bay chose to trade for Kaleb Johnson instead, releasing both Martinez and Strong. Also waived/released by the Packers were LS Cal Adomitis, T Brant Banks, G Dylan Barrett, CB Shemar Bartholomew, T Dalton Cooper, DT Jaden Crumedy, TE Drake Dabney, CB MJ Devonshire Jr., G Josh Gesky, WR Chris Hilton Jr., CB Domani Jackson, WR Kisean Johnson, EDGE Nyjalik Kelly, S Murvin Kenion III, T/G Darian Kinnard, EDGE Arron Mosby, WR Isaiah Neyor, RB Jaden Nixon; S Mark Perry, WR Kaden Prather, LB TJ Quinn, WR Will Sheppard, CB Jaylin Simpson, DT Nazir Stackhouse, RB Pierre Strong Jr., TE Messiah Swinson, G Dillon Wade, EDGE Arden Walker, and LB Kristian Welch.

Havrisik hit 4-of-4 field goals and 7-of-9 extra points this year, and the Packers seemed to be developing him as kicker of the future — whatever that means in the NFL — while letting him stay on the practice squad. With Brandon McManus’ job officially under scrutiny, it’s possible he eventually gets the Packers kicker gig.

Despite Martinez’ college record of success rushing for 1,000 yards and 10 touchdowns at Miami last year, the seventh-round pick was outplayed in preseason by George Holani, who appears to be the Seahawks’ RB3 to start the year. Martinez is still a name to watch as he could catch on with another team’s 53-man roster via waivers.
