49ers signed ILB Darry Beckwith to a reserve/future contract.
Beckwith was on San Diego’s practice squad last year after going undrafted out of LSU. He has special teams upside, but is backup material on defense.

Updating a previous item, ILB Darry Beckwith has signed a reserve/future contract with the Chargers.
NFL.com’s transactions page claimed earlier in the week that Beckwith had signed with the 49ers, who are in need of inside linebacker depth. Niners beat reporter Matt Maiocco, however, has confirmed that Beckwith will join San Diego’s roster. He will compete for a roster spot this summer.
  • NO Linebacker
Colts signed LB Darry Beckwith, formerly of the Chargers.
The former LSU Tiger may only be a camp body in Indianapolis. He’ll have to pick up a 4-3 scheme quickly after spending the last two years in San Diego’s 3-4.
  • NO Linebacker
    Chargers waived LB Darry Beckwith.
The special teamer lasted just one week on the roster after being promoted from the practice squad in Week 15.
  • FA Linebacker
Chargers placed ILB Stephen Cooper on injured reserve with a sprained left MCL, ending his season.
Darry Beckwith was signed from the practice squad. Cooper, 31, managed 43 tackles in 12 games this season -- his fewest since 2005 -- while contributing to just three turnovers and losing snaps down the stretch to Brandon Siler. Cooper isn’t under contract for 2011 and Siler, 25, may be the future at the position. Fellow ILB Kevin Burnett is also a free agent.
  • NO Linebacker
    Chargers re-signed ILB Darry Beckwith.
Beckwith spent last season on the Chargers’ practice squad after going undrafted out of LSU. He’ll pitch in on special teams.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Chargers did not extend tenders to WR Legedu Naanee, FB Billy Latsko, LS Ryan Neill, LB Darry Beckwith, and S Pat Watkins, making them unrestricted free agents.
Naanee recently was arrested for public intox and resisting, afterwards informing police he was “an NFL player” and was “going to sue your ass.” Confirms beat writer Kevin Acee, Naanee’s “time in San Diego is finished.” Naanee ended 2010 with 23 catches for 371 yards and one touchdown in 10 appearances (nine starts). His market value takes a big hit because of the arrest.
  • LAC Wide Receiver
Chargers waived WR Gary Banks, LB Darry Beckwith, OG Lee Grimes, and RB Marcus Mason.
The surprise is that Mason was sent packing before Curtis Brinkley, though Brinkley is almost certain to be among San Diego’s final cuts. Beckwith became expendable when Antwan Applewhite was moved to inside ‘backer. Banks, on the practice squad in 2009, was outplayed by undrafted rookies.
  • NO Linebacker
    Colts waived LB Darry Beckwith.
Beckwith lasted just 24 hours on the roster. The addition of Ernie Sims made him expendable. Perhaps a team will claim Beckwith to serve as a camp body.
