Former Stanford redshirt junior T Devery Hamilton committed to a graduate transfer to Duke.
The Blue Devils picked up a transfer commitment from former Clemson QB Chase Brice over the weekend. Now they pick up a versatile offensive lineman to help keep Brice clean. Hamilton (6'7/287) redshirted in 2019 after being waylaid by an undisclosed injury, allowing him to save a year of eligibility. The former four-star recruit played in 11 games in 2018, making six starts in that space (he worked at both guard positions that year, plus left tackle). Pitt and Indiana were both swinging for this one in addition to Duke, to no avail. While the Blue Devils missed out on bowl action with a 5-7 record in 2019, we could see them very quickly stabilize if their transfer gets pan out.
  • Stanford HC David Shaw said that there is no return timetable for junior T Devery Hamilton (undisclosed).
The Cardinal has dealt with a number of notable injuries on the offense line this fall, with Hamilton among the walking wounded. The major offshoot of the 6-foot-7, 287-pounder’s current injury sidelining is that it leaves Stanford -- somewhat remarkably -- with just one healthy backup offensive lineman in the person of freshman C Drake Nugent.
  • Draft Analyst’s Tony Pauline writes that Stanford junior T Devery Hamilton “has the ability to become the next big-time offensive line prospect from the Stanford program.”
“Hamilton has good size, blocks with solid fundamentals and stands out in pass protection,” Pauline notes before adding the more critical note that the 6-foot-7, 287-pound junior “needs to get stronger and must develop a nasty streak but has upside.” The analyst hits up Hamilton with a Round 4 grade. He views Bryce Love as Stanford’s lone Day 1 prospect at this juncture.
