The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs reports that Bears head coach Ben Johnson listed rookie RB Kyle Monangai among the players who “impressed throughout spring action.”
The Bears drafted Monangai in the seventh round after a productive college career at Rutgers. Monangai is unproven as a pass-catcher but did establish himself as a proficient tackle-breaking rusher at the college level. If he continues to perform well, he could challenge Roschon Johnson for the No. 2 rushing role. Johnson also listed TE Joel Wilson, EDGE Dominique Robinson & LB Ruben Hyppolite as players who have impressed him thus far.

Bears selected Miami (OH) DE Dominique Robinson with the No. 174 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
A former dual-threat high school quarterback, Robinson (6’5/253) played wide receiver before moving to edge in 2020. Though he didn’t start a single game on defense, Robinson still received third-team All-Mac accolades after rolling up 29 tackles, 8.5 TFLs, and 4.5 sacks in a situational pass rusher role. Usually a marginally productive MAC reserve pass rusher wouldn’t raise many eyebrows among the draft community, but Robinson put up a 99th-percentile 41-inch vertical, 4.19 shuttle (95th), 10-foot-1 broad jump (87th), and 4.72 (84th). Yet another player who benefitted from gaining an extra year of eligibility due to the pandemic, Robinson needs major refinement, but has the requisite athleticism and reported coachability to earn a shot at making Chicago’s final roster.

  • CHI Defensive Lineman #90
Miami (OH) EDGE Dominique Robinson posted a 41-inch vertical.
That’s the highest vert at the combine this year by a full three inches. Arnold Ebiketie, Boye Mafe, George Karlaftis and Joshua Paschal round out the rest of the top five. Robinson (6'4"/252) is a converted WR to DL of all things, and that WR background really showed in his vert. He played his first two years with the RedHawks as a WR, then switched to DL in 2020. His 2021 season was his best, posting 28 tackles (8.5 for loss) and 4.5 sacks this year.

  • CHI Defensive Lineman #90
Miami (OH) junior WR Dominique Robinson caught three passes for a team-high 80 yards in Saturday’s 23-16 win over Kent State.
Robinson (6'4/235) has yet to reach the end zone this season, but he is averaging a solid 22.3 yards per catch (13 receptions). The fact that the junior wide receiver has yet to reach the end zone isn’t a major surprise, as five different RedHawks have caught a touchdown pass (the team has five in total) this season. Robinson will look to add his name to the list on November 6 when Miami (OH) visits Ohio.
