The Bengals have moved Eric Henderson from defensive end to linebacker.
The transition was in the works for some time. Henderson surprisingly went undrafted in 2006 and spent the season on Cincinnati’s practice squad. He’s drawn comparisons to Adalius Thomas from some inside the organization.

Bengals DE/OLB Eric Henderson underwent surgery for a broken wrist Sunday.
The promising first-year player may go on injured reserve. The Bengals were hoping to employ Henderson in an Adalius Thomas-like role this season.

Bengals placed LB Eric Henderson on injured reserve with a fractured wrist, ending his season.
This is an underrated blow to a Bengals’ linebacker corps that always seems to struggle with injuries. The team had high hopes for Henderson, who spent last year on the practice squad, as a pass-rushing strong-side linebacker.

    Bengals waived DE/OLB Eric Henderson.
Picking Michael Johnson up in the third round allows the Bengals to give up on Henderson, who Marvin Lewis once called his next Adalius Thomas.

The Bengals have moved Eric Henderson back to linebacker.
Now the Bengals are using position switches to reduce the crazy number of LBs formerly on their roster. Henderson played end at Georgia Tech. He’s battling for a roster spot behind starters Antwan Odom and Robert Geathers.
  • TB Wide Receiver
Bengals waived WR Mario Urrutia, DT Antwon Burton, S John Busing, DE/OLB Eric Henderson, and RB James Johnson.
Johnson and Urrutia could both be headed for the practice squad. Busing and Henderson were mainly special teamers. Burton is big, but real slow.
  • FA Linebacker
Bengals re-signed LBs Rashad Jeanty and Corey Mays, both exclusive rights free agents.
Jeanty, a hard-hitting 245-pound SAM linebacker, is expected to start in 2008, but will face competition from Eric Henderson and Darryl Blackstock. Mays can play both outside spots, but has more work to do to make the club.

The Bengals haven’t discovered where they think Henderson fits best, but the last position he played was strong-side linebacker during the preseason.
