    Bills signed WR Jalen Wayne.
Wayne (6’2/210) spent six seasons at South Alabama and is the cousin of long-time NFL receiver Reggie Wayne. Playing alongside 2022 third-rounder Jalen Tolbert, Wayne was second on his team in receiving in 2021 (53-630-9) but did well with an increased role last season, posting a receiving line of 57-812-9. His lack of elite speed (4.51 40-time) showed up after the catch, as Wayne averaged a mere 4.1 YAC/REC for his career to go with 1.52 yards per route run. He also struggles in contested coverage, hauling in just three of 13 contested targets in his final season and 44 percent of contested targets for his career. An adequate route runner and contributor on special teams, Wayne will have a chance to stick on a roster but is unlikely to ever earn a significant role on offense.

South Alabama redshirt sophomore WR Jalen Wayne caught seven passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in a 41-14 victory over Georgia Southern on Thursday night.
Wayne (6'2/210) quietly had the best game of his career Thursday night. It was only his second game-breaking 100 yards and he also set his career-high for receptions in a game. He and teammate Jalen Tolbert give QB Jake Bentley two really good weapons on the outside. Wayne looks to build on his career performance next Saturday against Louisiana-Monroe.

  • FA Wide Receiver
South Alabama redshirt sophomore WR Jalen Wayne caught two passes for 22 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 30-28 loss at Texas State.
Wayne (6'2/220), appearing in his sixth game of the season, finally caught a pass (two, in fact) and scored his first career touchdown on Saturday. The redshirt sophomore was limited early in the season by a foot injury suffered in fall camp, and he really hasn’t been able to make the impact that people expected him to make before the 2019 campaign began. Wayne will look to build on Saturday’s effort next weekend when the Jaguars host Louisiana.
  • FA Wide Receiver
South Alabama redshirt sophomore WR Jalen Wayne is on track to return for Saturday’s game vs. UAB after missing time due to a broken foot.
Wayne (6'2/220) was expected to be a key contributor for the Jaguars heading into the season, but a broken foot suffered during fall camp has kept him out of the lineup. The redshirt sophomore only appeared in four games last season, but his ability to play multiple positions (tight end, wide receiver and even running back) makes Wayne a valuable asset to the South Alabama offense.
  • FA Wide Receiver
South Alabama redshirt sophomore WR Jalen Wayne will not play in Saturday’s game vs. Memphis as he continues to recover from a foot injury.
Wayne (6'2/220) has yet to appear in a game this season for the Jaguars due to the foot injury he suffered during fall camp. Versatility is one of the senior’s best attributes, as South Alabama was able to use Wayne at wide receiver, running back and tight end in 2018. Junior Kawaan Baker has served as the team’s starting H-receiver in the Jaguars’ first two games of the season.

South Alabama redshirt sophomore WR Jalen Wayne missed Wednesday’s practice as he continues to recover from a foot injury.
Wayne (6'2/210), the nephew of former Miami and Indianapolis Colts great Reggie Wayne, is expected to be a contributor for the Jaguars at the team’s H-receiver position. But the redshirt sophomore has been unable to practice due to his foot injury, and according to Creg Stephenson of AL.com at this point he’s considered to be questionable for USA’s season opener at Nebraska. Wayne was limited to just four games last season, but in 2017 as a true freshman he appeared in 12 games and was used at wide receiver, running back and tight end.
