Chargers placed OLB James Holt (shoulder surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.

Promoted off the practice squad in November, Holt finished with 10 tackles on defense while spelling Shawne Merriman some down the stretch. Holt was not picked in the 2009 NFL Draft and will battle for a roster spot in 2010.

Holt, 24, played in two games last season before landing on I.R. with a shoulder malady for the second straight year. We’re not sure what the Bolts see in him, but he’s young, cheap, and plays a thin position in San Diego.
