Jared Lorenzen engineered the game-winning drive as the Giants beat the Ravens 17-16 Friday night.
The contest ended on a 29-yard FG by Jay Feely. Lorenzen worked third behind Tim Hasselbeck and put up weak passing numbers (4-of-8 for 48 yards). The Hefty Lefty did run for 15 yards on five carries, but fumbled once.
  • IND Quarterback
Giants QB Jared Lorenzen has played his way into the backup QB coversation in New York.
“He hasn’t earned the job, he’s not there yet, but we have to consider him as a possibility,” QB coach Kevin Gilbride said. The local writers believe “The Hefty Lefty” has outplayed Tim Hasselbeck and Rob Johnson.
  • IND Quarterback
Jared Lorenzen was the only quarterback except Eli Manning to play Friday.
The Giants have reportedly settled on the Pillsbury Throwboy as their backup. Tim Hasselbeck could be cut. Lorenzen completed 7-of-12 passes, including six of his throws going for first downs, and finished with 60 yards passing Friday.
  • IND Quarterback
Giants QB Jared Lorenzen has apparently moved ahead of Tim Hasselbeck and Rob Johnson on the team’s depth chart.
The Hefty Lefty will enter New York’s next preseason game directly after Eli Manning. Lorenzen has been sharp throughout the off-year.
  • IND Quarterback
Jared Lorenzen is still “technically” the Giants’ top backup for Eli Manning, despite the team’s addition of Anthony Wright.
Wright should beat out Tim Hasselbeck for the emergency quarterback job, but is no lock to unseat Lorenzen, who the coaching staff still seems high on.
  • NYG Quarterback #10
Eli Manning was 28-of-41 for 312 yards with four touchdowns and an interception before leaving Sunday’s game with a bruised right shoulder.
Hopefully Manning’s injury isn’t more serious, as he looked great against Dallas’ secondary. He will undergo more tests tomorrow, and would be replaced by Jared Lorenzen if he misses significant time.
  • NYG Quarterback #10
ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports Eli Manning will miss a month with a separated shoulder.
Bizarre. The New York Daily News and Newsday both just reported Manning’s injury wasn’t nearly that serious. We’ll trust Mortensen here though. Manning owners should wait for news to continue to come out before deciding what to do with him. It’s rough news for Plaxico Burress, Derrick Ward, and Jeremy Shockey, as the offense is likely to slow down under Jared Lorenzen or Anthony Wright.
  • IND Quarterback
Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright are the Giants’ two options to start following Eli Manning’s shoulder injury.
Lorenzen is second on the depth chart currently but has never started a game. Wright has much more experience. The Giants could look into signing Tim Hasselbeck or give some thought to bringing in Byron Leftwich, but Leftwich isn’t familiar with the offense and won’t be ready to help right away.
  • IND Quarterback
Tom Coughlin indicated Jared Lorenzen is the favorite to start for the Giants this week, but he won’t announce a starter yet.
Very difficult first test for Lorenzen if he’s forced to face the improved Packers. “Right now it would be Lorenzen,” Coughlin said, “but I’m not ruling anything out. Nothing in, nothing out.”
