Ravens selected Penn State LB Jayson Oweh with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
An ex-basketball player, Oweh quickly achieved four-star status and was rated as the 76th best overall prospect front the 2018 recruiting class according to 247Sports. The Hackensack, NJ native established himself as a part-time rotational lineman in 2018 before showing playmaking ability in 2019, recording 31 pressures and 5.0 sacks while earning an 81.8 pass rush grade from PFF. Last season Oweh continued his upward trajectory, raising his run defense grade from 59.5 to 89.7 and receiving first-team All-Big Ten recognition. The only sour note on his standout season is that Oweh didn’t record a single sack. With his jaw dropping physical capabilities, however, it’s easy to overlook that inconvenient fact. The PSU edge rusher ran a sensational 4.36 40-yard dash while showing off a 39.5-inch vertical jump and 11’2” broad jump. Throw in his ultra-long 34.5 inch arms with an elite 9.96 RAS, and you’ve got the recipe for a comp like Montez Sweat.
